Lowcountry Auburn Club Annual Scholarship Dinner


Gather together with your fellow Tigers and yell "War Eagle!" in support of Auburn University at the Lowcountry Auburn Club's annual scholarship dinner on June 17. Rod Bramblett, voice of the Auburn football, baseball and basketball teams is this year's featured speaker along with special guest Betsy Robertson, editor of Auburn Magazine. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunfire Grill at 1090 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. in Charleston. Adult beverages will be available for purchase. The cost to attend the fundraiser is $35 per person, which must be received by June 14, at The Lowcountry Auburn Club, c/o Shannon Stone, P.O. Box 22133, Charleston, SC 29403-6322.

Brooke Hallman is the wife of the former mayor of Mt Pleasant who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2009.
Carroll Campbell, III is the son of the late former governor of SC Carroll Campbell, Jr. who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2001 and died in 2005
There will also be a brief update on MUSC’s Alzheimer’s research advancements
Who: This event is for ALL those affected by Alzheimer’s disease directly or indirectly or anyone interested in finding out more about Alzheimer’s disease (seniors, caregivers, health professionals, students, general public, etc)
Why: To create awareness for this disease and share what is being done in the Charleston community. This is also a unique opportunity to meet and hear from those in the community that have been affected by this devastating disease
From 2000-2006, Alzheimer's disease deaths increased 46.1 percent while breast cancer and heart disease deaths decreased by 2.2% and 11.1%, respectively.

CJI’s Legends Festival is an event in the City of Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival and C of C’s School of the Arts 20th Anniversary. A benefit race for the

Logan Rutledge Children’s Foundation
The Logan Rutledge Children’s foundation presents the 9th annual Lowcountry Splash Open Water Swim.


Start Location: Hobcaw Yacht Club

Race Course: This 2.4 mile open water swim (same as the IronMan Triathlon) will take place in the Charleston Harbor. Swimmers will start at Hobcaw Yacht Club, swimming along the Mount Pleasant shoreline, under the New Cooper River Bridge, passing the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier and finish at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Center.

Water Temp: The average water temperature in May is mid to upper 70's.

Race Safety: The US Coast Guard, Sullivan’s Island Fire and Rescue, Town of Mount Pleasant, and a fleet of kayakers and other safety vessels will monitor the course to ensure the swimmers' safety. There will be 6 foot tall buoys throughout the course.

The Cooper River Over Under Challenge
Consists of best combined time for the Cooper River Bridge Run and the Splash (Top Male, Female).
Team Competition
Consists of 10 or more swimmers from your swim team or from your own team of splashers. The fastest team wins. If the team has more than 10 people, the fastest 10 times from your group will be counted toward the competition.

Wet Suits
Wetsuits are allowed, but will not be eligible for prizes.

Entry Fee
Early Registration - $50 from 1/1/2010 to 6/3/2010

Late Registration - $60 from 6/3/2010 to 6/5/2010.  Day of Registration from 6:30 - 7:00 AM.  No registrants after 7:00 AM.

Entry Fee is non-refundable including the event of inclement weather or water conditions.

Fees include t-shirt, swim cap and reception at the awards ceremony at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Center. You may also order an embroidered towel for $25.

Rules
Personal Escorts will not be permitted in the race course. The race official’s primary concern will be for the health and safety of the swimmers and reserve the right to disqualify individuals and cancel the event if conditions warrant.

13th Annual Inshore Tournament

The Carolina Lady Anglers are pleased to announce the date for this year’s “Fishing for the Cure” inshore tournament.  The tournament is now in it’s 13th year!  The tournament will be held at the Charleston Maritime Center.  The tournament will be on June 5th, with a 4:00 pm weigh in.  Captain’s Meeting will be held on June 2rd from 6:00 until 9:00 pm at the Charleston Maritime Center.

Eligible species are King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, and Ladyfish.  Prizes included - 1st place $250.00 and a rod and reel, 2nd place $150 and a rod and reel, and 3rd place $50.00 and a cooler. We will also award a cooler for the biggest dogfish.

The mission of the Carolina Lady Anglers is to raise funds for education and research for
breast cancer, foster conservation, fellowship and good sportsmanship among its members and individuals; to promote education of marine resources among our members and the general public; to promote the family through the enjoyment of our marine resources; to promote saltwater sports fishing of all kinds.

Entry fee will be $30 per angler.  Youth anglers 12 and under is $10 per angler.  Entry forms can be mailed to P O Box 13141, Charleston, SC 29422.

Reel-n-4 Kids Fishing Tournament

Reel-n-4 Kids Fishing Tournament
Support for the Dorchester Children’s Center (DCC) – the only Children’s Advocacy Center in Dorchester County supported by the non-profit Children in Crisis, Inc. - is being shown by local businesses as they ban together and help coordinate the 1st Annual Scout Boats REEL-N-4KIDS Fishing Tournament, to be held Saturday, June 5, 2010. Scout Boats, Wendy’s, Bristol Marina, McElveen, Haddrell’s Point and Santee Industrial Products are all sponsors of the event.

 

The tournament proceeds will benefit the Dorchester Children’s Center, which provides a coordinated, evidence-based response to child abuse that reduces trauma and provides treatment for the children and families in the community in a safe, child-focused environment.

 

Scout Boats is donating a 151 Standard (complete w/ Yamaha F25 engine & trailer) for the grand prize drawing and $1,000 if the state record is broken while aboard a Scout; McElveen is donating a GMC or Chevy truck if the state record is broken. Wendy’s will provide the food at the prize drawing.

 

“We’re extremely humbled by the local support we’re receiving for this event,” said DCC Events/Donor Relations contact Bob Ingram. “We foresee a great turnout for the tournament and look forward to making this a successful event for all involved.”

 

The registration fee for the tournament is $150/boat (up to 4 anglers) if paid prior to May 15th, and $175 if paid after May 15th. 

 

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place in four species: Sea Trout, Redfish, Flounder, & Sheepshead.

 

Entry forms and door prize/food tickets are available at Scout Boats, Sportsman’s Island, Haddrell’s Point and the DCC.
